It is a PC game related blog. But I would like to share some PC related solutions also here. This one is about an error I had to face 2 , 3 days before.

I am using Bit defender 2011 antivirus. But one day I noticed that unknowingly many temporary files are created. So I tried to scan my PC. But when I tried to scan with my anti virus, it showed "Windows cannot access the specified device path or file or you do not have permission to do this". The same thing happened when I clicked microsoft security centre and many other files. 

How I recovered my PC. 

I dont wanted to format my PC. My antivirus is also not working. So 1st downloaded Norman malware cleaner from NORMAN MALWARE CLEANER which is also free and run a full scan of PC. Especially Scan C:documents and settings/ur username  folder. Scanning that folder itself will make your antivirus start run, but do a full scan also. But never stop here. Follow next steps also to ensure that your computer is clean

2. Download ccleaner  from CCLEANER (free tool to remove un necessory files from PC) and run

3. Download malware bytes malware bytes and run a full scan

4. Download free version of super anti spyware from super antispyware and run a full scan. It will remove all malwares almost completely.

Now everything will be fine and your antivirus will work now. Run a full system scan.

When trying to play older PC games like FIFA 98 on systems with modern high RAM capacities, many users encounter the frustrating "Initmem - INSUFFICIENT MEMORY TO CONTINUE" error message. This error prevents the game from launching properly, usually crashing to desktop when the initmem file hits line 246. 

The core trigger behind this insufficient memory problem lies in FIFA 98's aging game code and architecture being incompatible with new hardware standards. Originally written to run on 1990s machines with limited memory, the game is unable to allocate enough RAM resources when ample memory is present. Even though the hardware has sufficient capacity, conflicts arise in reservation which causes the game to crash out with the initmem error.

To resolve, many users try adjusting compatibility settings like running in 256 color mode or as Windows 98/95 app. However, the only foolproof fix is reducing the virtual memory/page file size of the system to mimic an older machine. But this solution negatively impacts other applications and is not recommended.

Unfortunately, outside of a proper patch or upgrade from EA Games, there are no clean fixes that provide both uninterrupted FIFA 98 gameplay and optimized PC performance. For retro gaming enthusiasts, running the title via DOSBox emulation offers another alternative minus tampering with the OS. But as of now, the inability to allocate memory resources on modern hardware for older titles persists as a technical limitation.

Hopefully this summary gives insights into the Infinitmem error for those nostalgic about FIFA 98! Do share any specific workarounds if found.

initmem insufficient memory to continue error now appears in many old fifa games while we try to play it in new PCs.  FIFA 98 is one of the most popular game. But  whenever we try to play it in a PC with high RAM memory, it shows Initmem - INSUFFICIENT MEMORY TO CONTINUE FILE win\intmem.c LINE 246 . I searched a lot and tried many things including compatibility settings. But couldn’t find a better solution to Initmem - INSUFFICIENT MEMORY error. The only solution available is to lower virtual memory of PC. I personally don’t like this as it may interfere with working of other games or other programs which need more memory. But you have to do it if you really want to play this game.

To disable Virtual Memory in Windows XP

IMPORTANT: For systems with more than 512MB of RAM ONLY!!!

FIFA 98 users struggling to run the game on Windows XP with high RAM can try disabling virtual memory as a fix for crashes with the infamous “Initmem – Insufficient Memory” error message. 

Do note that this workaround ONLY applies to XP systems that have more than 512MB of physical RAM installed. Lower capacities will require some paging file for stability.

Follow these step-by-step instructions to turn off pagefiles in compatible configs:

1. Open Control Panel and go to System > Advanced system settings > Advanced tab > Performance Settings

2. Navigate to the Advanced tab and click on Virtual Memory 

3. On the next screen, select the radio button for “No paging file” under both C: drive and any other disk partitions

4. Click the Set button and restart your computer when prompted

This permanently removes XP’s swap file that facilitates data transfers between RAM and hard disks. In FIFA 98’s case, it tricks the aging game code into believing not enough allocatable memory is present. While counterintuitive, this forces it to adjust requirements and hopefully prevent the launch crashes.

However, running optimally without virtual memory isn't recommended for XP itself. But as a specific troubleshooting step for stubborn old games, it sometimes does the trick. See if removing pagefiles lets you boot FIFA 98 first before re-enabling. Remember to switch it back on for system stability down the line.

To enable Virtual Memory in Windows XP 

After attempting to run FIFA 98 by disabling virtual memory, it is recommended to switch pagefiles back on in Windows XP for optimal system performance.

Follow these simple steps to revert to the default auto-managed paging settings:

1. Navigate to Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance Settings > Advanced Tab 

2. Click on Virtual Memory

3. On the next screen, select the radio button for “System managed size” under both the C: drive and any other partitions

4. Click Set and restart your computer when prompted

This automatically configures XP to handle virtual memory allocation on its own based on activity needs. With pagefiles restored, applications demanding higher RAM get supplemental disk space for smooth functioning.

You can leave virtual memory disabled if FIFA 98 runs flawlessly and you face no stability issues after extensive software usage testing. But periodic lags, crashes or freeze ups indicate your XP config requires pagefiles as a data transfer fallback. 

Ideally, the preferred approach is using DOSBox emulation shells or patched game files that bypass compatibility errors entirely. Lacking official fixes, the next best tactic is enabling virtual memory again for XP reliability post any retro gaming troubleshooting experiments.

The Root Issue Behind the "Insufficient Memory" Error

Call 911:
If you call 911 on your phone you can select if you need an ambulance, police car or a fire truck. Make your selection and wait for them to arrive so you can steal the vehicle. If you get into the ambulance you will get a small health boost and if you get into the police car you will get 5 shotgun shells.

Hidden Shirt:
Get to Happiness Island. Run up to the base of the statue to find a shirt on the ground. Walk over it to put it on. It has a picture of the statue and the text Happiness is... on the front and the text ...land on the back.
Get Claude's outfit:
If you choose the kill Playboy X you will take over his safehouse. If you change clothes in that safehouse you can choose to wear the outfit Claude (the main character in GTA III) was wearing. Black jacket, green pants and black/white shoes.

The heart of the Statue:
Get a helicopter and fly to Happiness Island. Jump out of the helicopter at the top of the statue's base so you'll land by it's feet. You can not take the stairs this high. Look at the sign next to the door. It says No Hidden Content Here. Enter the door and climb the ladder inside the statue. You will find a big, red, beating heart held in place by chains.

Purple Dildo:
Head inside the old, abandoned Casino where the last mission takes place, at the north end of Alderney. Look at one of the trash piles on the ground to find a purple dildo sticking out.

GTA Graffitti:
Across the road from Bank of Liberty you can find a house covered in graffitti. Some of the artwork is from old GTA titles.

GTA portraits:
Across the street from the museum in Algonquin you can find a portrait painter. The portraits are of old GTA characters.

Old GTA character's names graffitti:
Go inside one of the pink houses near Manny's community center. Go to the back of the inside and look at the wall. You will find graffitti with names from a lot of old GTA characters, like Claude, Tommy, Toni, etc.

OG Loc CD:
In your Bohan safehouse you can find a CD by OG Loc from San Andreas on the floor.

Golf Course Land Marks:
At the mini-golf course at Firefly Island you can find a small version of the giant chicken from San Andreas, the lighthouse from the GTA III version of Liberty City, the Watts Towers from Los Santos and the Ocean View Hotel from GTA: Vice City.

Easy One Man Army achievement:
To get the One Man Army achivement steal or spawn a helicopter and fly over an island that you don't have access to yet. It will raise your wanted level to 5 stars. Fly as high as you can and you'll be flying higher than the police helicopters, then just fly for 5 minutes.



Car repair glitch:
When your car breaks down and it wont start, get your phone up and type 911. As soon as your call gets through your car will start up again. (This also works for any other number including pre-set ones i.e. Roman's). It works for every vehicle.

Easy Gobble Gobble Achievement:
Go to the bowling alley that you took Michelle on a date to. Choose the left most lane. Move Niko to the left 2 full steps. Throw the ball slowly, you want the speed somewhere around 20 but it doesn't need to be exact. Do this three times.
